Trauma and loss are significant factors that bring a person to therapy and Victoria has a special interest and expertise in providing people with a supportive space to explore and allow their complex feelings to heal through therapy.
A note on grief by Dr Lawson
Finding a way to start this has proved a challenge. Many a sentence have I written and quickly deleted. No words seem enough to explain the magnitude of feelings summoned in the face of grief.
Except maybe overwhelming, that might be a good place to start.
I sit here to write, and pictures arise in my mind of the clients I have had the privilege of meeting over my years in practice. Their journey and their stories have deepened my knowledge and compassion for the complexities and extra-ordinary feelings grief evokes.
Starting my career many years ago leading an older adults psychology service prepped me for the inevitable. That as time passes and we all get older, and although hopefully wiser, we certainly become more battle scarred. By loss. By change. By grief.
If your internet search finds you here, I hear you.
And I am deeply sorry for your pain.
And although I could continue with the wonderful testament of hope my experience has afforded me and the knowledge that although grief never leaves, the hurt can heal and begin to feel more manageable. I won’t go into that here.
For if your internet search has brought you here on your grief journey, hope, platitudes and visions for a more positive future are unlikely to resonate with you for now.
The purpose of this post is to highlight the pain of grief.
And I leave it as a welcome, as your grief is welcome here.
Please get in touch if we can offer support.
And we will keep hold of the hope for you, until the magnitude of your loss has subsided.
